• Landscape Use: Use in hot, dry, south-facing slopes or sites. Maximize attractiveness in a landscape by planting on a slope. Very drought-tolerant. Full sun. Special Conditions: Do not water. Keep the grass away from this as Creeping Juniper looks unkempt with grass growing in it. Native seed sources will perform to expectations.
  • Landscape Use: Hardy replacement for a lot of mainstream juniper cultivars. Life expectancy can be hundreds of years. Distinctive fragrance . lexible exposure; can take extreme hot and dry, but survives in the shade. Extremely drought tolerant; do not overwater. Special Conditions: Does not like excess moisture beyond normal rainfall. Resistant to juniper hawthorne rust.
  • Landscape Use: Restricted to shady and damp locations at this point in trials. We are looking for better seed sources for a broader range of landscape use. Beautiful plant that has many ornamental features, but difficult to grow. Special Conditions: Under trial at this point. Not in normal production for sale; call to enquire.
  • Landscape Use: Works as a thin flowing ground cover. Moist conifer (pine) understory. Showy flowers, showy fruits for shady areas. Edible, but very tart, berries. Special Conditions: Likes some extra moisture and snow cover in the winter. The only Alberta seed source that we know of comes from Bow Point Nursery.
  • Landscape Use: Makes an attractive small hedge without a lot of maintenance. Valuable for late season bee food source. Persistent seed heads provide winter interest. Hot, dry, full sun. Extremely drought tolerant for Calgary and area gardens. Special Conditions: A prairie plant that needs to be planted in suitable sites. Native seed sourced potentillas survived the devastating fall of 2009.
  • Landscape Use: We use it for shade foliage as an understory. Unique and underused plant. Unknown in the mainstream nursery industry. Special Conditions: A new introduction with limited numbers.
  • Landscape Use: Of limited use in the Calgary region due to cool nights; performs better on the prairies with the warmer summer nights. Neat compact plant for full sun. In the right spot, you can look forward to a great fall show. Special Conditions: We’ve grown it at Bow Point Nursery but it has not performed very well.   • Landscape Use: Versatile; use everywhere. Grows under spruce. Has a graceful tumbling shape in contrast with its sharp thorns. Berries are tasty. Sun or shade. Many public places have eliminated the understory plantings from a safety standpoint, but gooseberry can be used as a safe understory for mass plantings; will spread to fill in an area, yet remain low. Special Conditions: Likes to be in a mulched bed. Doesn’t compete well with grasses.
